The veterinary teaching hospital located at Mettupalayam, Puducherry has all the four clinical Departments with a total faculty strength of 13 which includes three Professors, 2 Associate Professors and 8 Assistant Professors.
The Veterinary Teaching Hospital has all the required modern equipments, which include a Scanner, Endoscopy unit, X-ray unit, Defibrillator, Boyles’ Anaesthesia apparatus, Auto analyzer etc. The hospital has well established air-conditioned operation theaters to perform minor and major surgeries in small animals and large animals. A septic operation theatre to perform surgeries in small animals and to attend to other gynaecological and obstetrical cases is fully functioning. The hospital is serving as a Referral Clinic for disease diagnosis and treatment of animals in and around Puducherry.
Facilities
Two surgical operation theatres to cater to the requirements of both small and large animal surgery.
A separate small animal obstetrical theatre for attending cesarean section.
A Radiology and Physiotherapy unit.
A Small animal medicine clinic with facilities for Electro cardiography, blood transfusion and oxygen therapy.
A Veterinary Diagnostic laboratory with semi auto analyzer for various biochemical estimations.
Separate in-health care unit for vaccination, artificial insemination
In-patient wards for small and large animals.
A client room
On an average, 70 sick animals including referral cases are attended daily at the teaching hospital.
An Ambulatory Clinic with a team of experts is being operated six days in a week to expose the students to the primary cases at the door steps of the livestock owners in their villages. About 25 cases on an average are attended during every visit.
Emergency cases in Pondicherry town are attended by an "Expert on Wheels" during day time at the doorsteps of the animal owners' house.
Emergency cases are attended at the Hospital campus round the clock on call duty basis by an expert from each clinical department.
