EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

VILLAGE ADOPTION

The Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Extension Education organizes Need Based Training Programs to meet the requirements of livestock owners and funding agencies. These programs were organized with the active participation of faculty drawn from the Departments of VOG, VSR, LPM, ANN and VCM.

              Between the years 2011-2013, the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension had selected six villages for the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students. These villages are Pillaiyarkuppam, Mannadipet, Koodapakkam, Sorapet, Sellipet and Utthiravahinipet. The students are exposed to planning and implementing various extension programs, and in the process helped the livestock owners in improving their knowledge and skills in scientific rearing of their livestock. Also, a Two Day tailor-made program on Scientific Goat Management is conducted under Farmers Technology Transfer Fund by NABARD currently.

Exhibition Hall: The Exhibition Hall was renovated in the recent past and  is open for visitors.

Farmers Advisory Service: Prospective entrepreneurs and farmers have visited the Department to discuss the prospects of starting farms and for various other advisory services.

Campaigns:  The Department organizes campaigns as  part of VCI curriculum.

A Deworming campaign was organized at Kunichempet and Thirukanur during the year 2011-12.

Two campaigns were organised at Uthiravahinipet  and Aariyapalayam village  in Villianur Commune where 570 goats were dewormed and 300 goats vaccinated against PPR in December 2012.

A campaign was organized at Pillayarkuppam village on 7/2/2013 where 100 goats were vaccinated against PPR.

Radio Talks: Two Radio Talks(AIR, Puducherry) were broadcasted in 2012 for the benefit of livestock owners.
