 “Estimation of total phenols and tannins in certain tree leaves”

-                      Work on analysis of the fallen tree leaves such as teak, banyan, cashew, jack for their cell contents, cell wall fractions and polyphenolic compounds is in progress.

-                      The practical utility of tree leaves in ruminant rations to enhance the nitrogen efficiency is being explored.

Department of  Animal Nutrition

  1.  “To study the efficiency of different enzymes in broiler performance mainly on energy and nitrogen utilization”, collaborative research project between department of Animal Nutrition and Kemin Nutritional Technologies ( India ) Pvt. Ltd., (April 2003 - June 2003).
  1. A report has been prepared under the title “A study on feeding Practices at Pondicherry” based on the inputs collected during the field study trips for BVSc & AH students, along with information published in the proceedings of workshops viz “Landless livestock training: Problems and prospects” and “Dairy farmers and Scientist interaction on Animal Nutrition issues” (2005).
  1. “A survey on Feed Quality Control in Pondicherry ” had been undertaken using the samples received from Department of Animal Husbandry & Animal Welfare, Government of Pondicherry and The Pondicherry Co-operative Milk Producers Union (PONLAIT) and samples collected from various shopping complexes of Pondicherry region located in rural, periurban and urban areas and Instructional Farm Complex of our College.  A total of 102 feed ingredients, 111 cattle feed samples, 184 chicken feed samples and 42 pig feed samples were used for the study.  They were analyzed for their quality and the report was prepared (2005).
  1. "Evaluation of supplementary feeding value of local tree foliage (subabul, agathi, jackfruit, cashewnut, Acacia auriculiformis and Peltophorum ferrugenium) in goats fed on NB hybrid green fodder" (six experiments) (2005 - 2006).
  1. Evaluation of nutritive value of cashewnut leaves in goats (2005 - 2006). 
  1. “Estimation of total phenols and tannins in certain tree leaves” has been started in March 2007.

a)      Analysis of tree leaves of Acacia auriculiformis, cashewnut, Gliricidia sepium, Jack, Sesbania grandiflora, Subabul and Yellow gold mohur for their cell contents, cell wall fractions and polyphenolic compounds.

b)     Cell contents cell wall fractions and polyphenolic compounds of guava leaves were analysed along with some more samples of Acacia auriculiformis and cashewnut leaves for comparison.
